Root canal is a fine space inside the tooth which contains dental pulp consisting of nerves and blood vessels. If the dental pulp becomes diseased or dies, a toothache or an abscess may occur.
A root canal removes the pulp chamber of the tooth but not the roots of the tooth. The pulp chamber is then filled with a suitable filling material.
